TowAt Maniacs Webisode #1

Hey Guys,

Recently me and Brock Bowden have been going down to Oceanside and doing towats. Its been so much fun and this time we decided to video it. We brought along Derek Mouridian and got some footage. We try to do this every weekend that I don’t have a contest and when Brock isn’t Lifeguarding. Doing towats is really good practice for the Winter, when we want to start towing and paddling some real waves.

HBHS Surf Team Australia Trip

PART 1: Bells Beach

Traveling internationally by yourself with board bags is hard, but with eleven people it’s a whole other adventure. Once we got the whole Huntington Beach High School Surf Team checked in (including myself, Dane McCrystal, Jack Boyes, Tony Bartovich, Chris Love, Luke Barret, Christian Saenz, Marco Passandquinci, Johny Elles, Bill Sharp (Coach), Andy Verdone (Coach) we were bound for our 15 hour flight to Melbourne. Once we arrived we gathered all our board bags and rented a 21 seater van, and we were on our way to Bells. We arrived at the Bells Beach Cottages  where we were  welcomed by an awesome family that let us stay in their beautiful  Cottages. We then got our board bags unpacked and got in our first surf at a beach break called Fairhaven. We got the honor of surfing in the Bells event against the Victoria High School, and the Ripcurl Grom Search team in a tag team format. It was so great to be able to surf in the Bells event because it gave us a little taste of what it would be like to be a pro surfer. We met many surfing legends. Also we got to see our local friend Brett Simpson surf in the event. It was so awesome to have the privilege to surf in the event  and I want  to give special thanks to Max Wells and Ross Slavich for this. We had many memorable sessions at Bells thanks to Andy Verdone and Bill Sharp. We were then headed off to Sydney to do a Cystic Fibrosis awareness contest.

Part 2: Sydney

After the awesome week we had at Bells we were then off to Sydney to do a Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Contest. When we got to Sydney we were greeted by Mr. Verdone’s friend Evan Jeffrey who gave us a ride to Avalon to meet up with our families that we were going to be staying with for the week. Myself and Johnny Elles got to stay with the awesome Bosler family. We got to have many good times in Sydney, good waves, and got to spread awareness about Cystic Fibrosis. I want to give special thanks to Evan Jeffrey and the Bosler family for your hospitality. Thanks again Mr. Verdone and Bill Sharp for taking us.

Get Home From Santa Barbara, Then to Oceanside

After Dan Kaiahua and I surfed El Capitan  for 4 hours we started driving home and decided to head out to Oceanside the following day. When we got to Oceanside it was howling offshore and freezing. We got the Ski in the water and headed out. Dan and I both got some fun waves. I brought my new Go Pro HD camera and got some really sick footage and here is a little bit of it for you to enjoy!

Drive home from Mexico, Fly out to Utah

After i got home from Mexico at 10:00pm, I look at the weather reports and saw a big snow storm heading for Utah so i packed my bags and decided to fly out the next morning. After sitting in the airport for 7 hours because of flight delays i finally made it there. The first day I snowboarded Park City and it was really cold and the storm just got  there. I only snowboarded half day due to bad weather and wanting to save my energy for a good powder day the next day. The next day we decided to drive an hour outside of Park City and go snowboard Solitude. We had a pretty epic powder day. The next morning we drove home because we saw the storm ending and a new swell hitting the West Coast. Heres a video with my new HD Go Pro Camera that i attached to my helmet.

Last Minute Big Wave Hunting Todos Santos

Clay  Crandal called me saturday morning after he got off work to see if I wanted to go to Mexico. Of course I said yes. We packed our bags and hour later we were on our way. The first day we pulled up to Killers it was about 8-12ft faces with no wind and absolute perfection. After we had a great 2 hour session we came in and headed to the nearest taco stand and fell asleep. Next morning we woke up 4:40 AM and headed to the harbor, met up with the crew (including Myself, Corky Crandal, Clay Crandal, Ray, Jeff, Reggie) and got out there as fast as possible. We pulled up and it was about 20-30ft faces and Cameron and Clay started towing right away. After the whole crew towed for 4 hours, the paddle crew showed up and myself, Clay, and Ray started paddling. After that, the wind picked up and we headed back to the harbor. When we got in and we met up with Shane and Jesse Steelman, and Chris and got a quick session at San Miguel before dark. Then got some tacos and headed to bed. Next morning, we woke up at 4:30am and headed out to the harbor. We got all the skis and the boat and headed to Todos Santos. Clay and I  lost the boat in the dark and had to find our way to the island by the lighthouse. Once we got there we saw a solid 40ft face set and after that it was game on. It was 20-40ft faces all day. Everyone started towing and having some fun. Sorry Jesse there are no pictures of you because the boat almost rolled and we had to move it while you were towing. After the 5 hour tow session, the paddle guys showed up and started paddling. Cameron, Clay, and Chris headed out there paddled into some of the biggest waves of our lives. We headed back to the harbor and put all of our stuff into Shanes car and he drove all the groms home. Thanks so Much Corky and Clay Crandal for taking me out there. I had a great time. Thanks everybody on the trip for a great time
